White House placed on lockdown after man fatally shoots himself next to fence

The White House was placed on lockdown as Secret Service agents responded to an incident in which a man shot himself to death close to the perimeter fence of the building. With President Donald Trump at his estate in Florida, the Secret Service said it was “responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound” along the north fence line of the building. The man was identified by the Secret Service and the city's Metropolitan Police Department, but his name was not immediately released so authorities could notify his relatives.
